The IQOS ILUMA experience is completely different from cigarettes.
Cigarettes burn tobacco at very high temperatures. IQOS ILUMA heats tobacco sticks from the inside instead of burning them, at a much lower temperature, without combustion but with a consistent taste experience.
It produces less smell compared to cigarettes, making it less likely to bother people around you.
E-cigarettes
Although both involve no combustion, IQOS is very different from an electronic cigarette.
Electronic cigarettes heat liquids that may contain nicotine, an addictive substance extracted from the tobacco plant and mixed with glycerin, propylene glycol, and food flavorings, creating flavored vapor.
IQOS ILUMA, on the other hand, is a device that heats tobacco sticks to deliver their true taste, without smoke and ash. The stick consists of a blend containing water and glycerin, producing a tobacco vapor. Nicotine is therefore derived directly from the tobacco plant and is not added.
A previous generation IQOS or Lil SOLID
In your experience with previous devices from the IQOS family, you've probably found yourself frequently cleaning the device and noticed it could scatter tobacco residues.
Devices from the IQOS ILUMA range don't need to be cleaned and don't leave traces of tobacco in your pocket or bag.
Additionally, IQOS ILUMA produces significantly less smell compared to previous IQOS models (as reported by the majority of consumers based on studies conducted in Italy and Japan with a total of 714 IQOS users, November 2020 – March 2021).
Another heated tobacco device
If you're used to using other tobacco heaters, it's important to be ready for a different experience with IQOS ILUMA.
In fact, IQOS ILUMA has features that set it apart from many others, notably:
- It's easy to use, doesn't require cleaning like previous models, and has no blade.
- It allows the longest* usage in its category, up to 6 minutes or 14 draws depending on which event occurs first: equivalent to the duration of a cigarette.
- With IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA PRIME models, you can have 2 consecutive experiences without waiting times, and up to 20 with IQOS ILUMA ONE.

Soft Reset
If your device happens to freeze, start with a soft reset.
- Simply press the button for 10 seconds; release the button, and all the lights will turn off and then blink twice. The lights will then come back on to confirm the reset.
Device Reset
If yours isn't working even though it's charged, you'll need to reset it. Here's how:
- Press the button until the lights will be off
- Release the button; the battery lights will turn off, blink twice, and then come back on, indicating that the initialization has been successful.
Automatic start
The IQOS ILUMA holder begins preheating automatically upon insertion of a SMARTCORE STICK™. This feature can be disabled through the IQOS app.
Lift Up function
Want to know how many uses you have left before needing to recharge the device?
Lift the holder towards you when you're not using IQOS, the lights will indicate the number of remaining uses.
Soft Reset
If your device gets stuck, start by trying a soft reset.
- Place the Holder into the Pocket Charger and press the button for 10 seconds; then release the button, and all lights will turn off and blink twice. The lights will come back on to confirm the reset.

If yours still isn't working even when fully charged, you'll need to perform a reset. Here's how:
- Press the Pocket Charger button until the lights go out.
- Release the button; the battery lights will turn off, blink twice, and then come back on, indicating that the initialization has been successful.
