- IQOS ILUMA™ heats tobacco from the inside using induction heating technology – SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM™.
- BONDS by IQOS™ uses ROUNDHEAT SYSTEM™ technology to heat the tobacco through external (resistive) heating.
Difference in experience:
- IQOS ILUMA™ offers a range of advanced features that can be enabled or disabled via the IQOS app to personalize the experience.
- BONDS by IQOS™ is a compact, lightweight device with essential lines and simple operation.
- The duration of the experience with IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA i is 14 puffs or up to 6 minutes, whichever comes first. With BONDS by IQOS™, the experience lasts about 5 minutes with no puff limit.
The sticks are not compatible:
- Blends tobacco sticks are designed to be used exclusively with the BONDS by IQOS™ device, while SMARTCORE STICKS™ (TEREA/DELIA/LEVIA) are designed exclusively for IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA i devices.
- SMARTCORE STICKS™ are divided into: tobacco sticks (TEREA and DELIA) and non-tobacco sticks with nicotine (LEVIA).
- Blends™ tobacco sticks contain tobacco. The tobacco is processed and appears similar to that in cigarettes, to deliver the authentic taste of tobacco.
- Blends™ tobacco sticks are not compatible with IQOS ILUMA or IQOS ILUMA i devices, and SMARTCORE STICKS™ (TEREA, DELIA, LEVIA) are not compatible with the BONDS by IQOS™ device.

BONDS by IQOS devices and Blends™ tobacco sticks are currently available in the following foreign countries:

- After the 2nd vibration (about 10 seconds), you need to take the first puff to prepare the device because some aerosol mainly composed of vaporized water must be removed.
- This excess water vapor, in certain humid and warm weather conditions, could lead to a warmer-than-usual sensation when inhaling the aerosol and may pose a risk of thermal burns. For this reason, users are instructed to take the first puff after the second vibration.
- The first puff may sometimes contain little aerosol and no flavor. This is normal and does not indicate any problem with the device or the tobacco stick.
TURNING ON/OFF: Press and hold the button for 4 seconds until the device vibrates, then release it. The lights will slowly turn on (or off).
PREPARATION: Slide to open the stick insertion compartment and insert the Blends™ tobacco stick up to the line printed on the filter, with the filter facing outward. Press the button until the device vibrates and the light blinks (1st vibration). Then wait for the next vibration. After preheating, the device will vibrate again (2nd vibration).
- Position the stick and take one puff to prepare your device. You will not taste the tobacco yet. Wait for the next vibration.
- If the stick is inserted upside down (logo not visible), the device will not release vapor. Check the stick orientation before use.
START OF THE EXPERIENCE: At the third vibration, the device is ready for use. You have an experience of about 5 minutes. During use, the lights indicate the remaining time. To signal the last 30 seconds, the device will vibrate once with a flashing white light. At the end of the experience, remove the used Blends™ stick and dispose of it (once cooled) according to local regulations. Slide to close after use.
CONSECUTIVE USES: The device can be used 3 times in a row.
- After 3 consecutive uses, the lights will blink twice UP and DOWN to indicate the cooling process.
- It will take about 4 minutes before the device can be used again.
AFTER USE: Remove the stick shortly after the end of the experience. After removing the stick, do not touch the end section of the stick, as it reaches high temperatures after use. Close the device lid after use to prevent the accumulation of foreign particles (such as dust) in the heating chamber.
CHECKING THE BATTERY LEVEL: Briefly press the button for 1 second. The status lights will illuminate to show the battery level:
- 1 light = 25%
- 2 lights = 50%
- 3 lights = 75%
- 4 lights = full charge
LOW BATTERY: A flashing yellow light indicates that the battery is low (0-5% remaining), so charge the device. The BONDS by IQOS™ device does not need to be fully charged to function; however, a full charge is recommended before first use. For safe use, always charge your BONDS by IQOS™ device using the supplied charging cable and a certified third-party AC Power Adapter (5 V 2 A with a safety certification mark). If other charging sources are used (non-certified or incompatible) - such as smartphone chargers, car phone chargers, laptop USB ports, or portable power banks the lights will blink slowly, and charging may take more than 3 hours.
- Use the AC power adapter from the following IQOS devices: IQOS 3, IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS 3 MULTI, IQOS ILUMA line, and IQOS ILUMA i.
- Purchase it separately at IQOS stores or on iqos.com.
- Use a certified third-party AC power adapter (5 V 2A with a safety certification mark).
- Provides 10W (5V 2A - 5 Volts, 2 Amps, indicated on the adapter packaging).
- Has a safety certification mark (indicated on the adapter by the CE conformity symbol).
- Is compatible with the IQOS (Type-C) cable.
- Does not use lower power.
Depending on the AC adapter model, it may take up to 15 minutes before the charging lights start blinking. Power specifications can be checked on the adapter or its packaging.
If using a third-party charging cable, make sure it:
- Is designed to provide up to 2 Amps.
- Has a safety certification mark (indicated by the CE conformity symbol).
The reset is confirmed when all lights turn on, blink twice, and the device powers on. The lights will turn on and display the battery status.
Do not hold for more than 10 seconds, or the device reset will start.
If you accidentally pressed the button and turned the device on, press the button for 4 seconds to turn it off again.
- If the lights flash white, it means the device is outside the operating temperature range (0°-40°C); allow the device to return within this range.
- If the ambient temperature is low, try warming the device in your hands for at least one minute to bring it back into the optimal operating range.
- If the ambient temperature is too high, allow it to cool by removing it from the heat source.
Flashing lower yellow light:
- The device light flashes yellow 3 times, indicating the battery is low. The device needs to be charged.
- To get up to 25 experiences, the device must be fully charged.
- Make sure to use a certified AC power adapter* and the supplied charging cable.
Lights blinking up and down twice:
- This occurs after 3 consecutive uses.
- After 3 consecutive uses, the device automatically begins cooling and will not allow a 4th use.
- It will take 4 minutes before the device can be used again.
Flashing red light: Perform RESET:
- Press and hold the button continuously for 10 seconds.
- The reset is confirmed when all lights turn on, blink twice, and the device powers on. The lights will then display the battery status.
*Since the AC power adapter is not included, you can purchase an IQOS ILUMA™ AC adapter at IQOS™ stores or on iqos.com, or use a certified third-party AC adapter (5V 2A with safety certification mark) that:
- Provides 10W (5V 2A - 5 Volts 2 Amps).
- IQOS device charging cables are compatible with BONDS by IQOS™ devices.
- Has a safety certification mark indicated by the CE symbol on the adapter.
- When using an incompatible adapter, the lights will blink slowly and charging may take more than 3 hours.
Press the button to check if the charge is sufficient for an experience:
- 1 light = 25%
- 2 lights = 50%
- 3 lights = 75%
- 4 lights = full charge
If it is still not charging, check that the USB connections are clean on both the device and the AC adapter (see the dedicated FAQ).
- If it has been exposed to excessive heat or humidity
- If it has been placed near heat sources such as stoves or fireplaces
- If exposed to low temperatures, allow the device to return to the optimal temperature (but do not expose it directly to a heat source).
To stop the experience, turn off the device by pressing the button for 2 seconds.
The device is operating normally and does not need to be replaced. The noise may continue throughout the experience but will stop at the end.
Will the sound continue for the entire usage period?
device can be used under normal operating conditions.
Does the sound mean the device has a quality problem?
No, it does not indicate a quality issue. If the device is used according to the User Guide and the Safety Instructions and Warnings, this noise does not pose any safety or performance risk.
The statutory warranty does not cover:
- Damage to any component of the BONDS by IQOS™ device caused by normal wear and tear.
- Cosmetic damage (such as scratches, scuffs, or broken plastics).
- Damage to device components caused by misuse, voltage fluctuations, improper handling, contact with liquids, fire, or removal of the serial number.
- Malfunctions caused by using incompatible products.
- Damage or malfunction caused by attempting to open, modify, or repair a device component by the user or an unauthorized technician.
- Damage or malfunctions caused by use other than described in the User Guide or in violation of the firmware license agreement.
- Degradation of the product's battery performance. Batteries are consumable parts, and performance degradation over time does not constitute a manufacturing defect.
